Average Monthly Collections:
The average monthly collections data for each specialty was taken from the 2011 MGMA Physician Compensation and Production Survey. The attributes used to select this data were collections for professional charges excluding the technical charge for the operation and use of the equipment and non-practicing physician costs. Survey data was used from all surveyed practices, physicians working full time, non-hospital employees, with a single specialty focus. If the data for a given medical specialty was not available an average of all specialties was used for that specialties monthly collections.
Meaningful Use Incentives
Meaningful Use Incentives are based on completing Stage 1, Year 1 in 2013 for a total of four years attestation, resulting in a total incentive payment of $39,000. The amount of the incentive changes based on program, stage, and year.
To determine the incentive for PQRS, the practice’s average monthly collections is multiplied by the incentive of +.5%. This provides a monthly payment for successful participation.

Qualify for Meaningful Use
Kareo makes it easy to track and report your core criteria and clinical quality measures for Meaningful Use. You can qualify for incentives and avoid future adjustments to your Medicare reimbursement.
- Start Meaningful Use Stage 1 in 2014 and receive up to $24k per provider over 3 years for Medicare or $53,125 for Medicaid over 5 years
- You must attest no later than Oct. 1, 2014, in order to avoid the 2015 penalties.
Qualify for PQRS Incentives
Similar to Meaningful Use, the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) is an incentive program that requires participants to report on specific quality measures. These measures can be reported to CMS through the Kareo Practice Management or EHR systems to qualify for payments in 2014.
- The incentive is equal to 0.5% of the total estimated Medicare Part B Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) allowed charges for covered professional services furnished during that same reporting period.
- EPs who do not satisfactorily report data on quality measures for covered professional services during the 2014 PQRS program year will be subject to a 2% payment adjustment for services provided in 2016.
