Attach Document

Several records in the system, such as a provider, patient, appointment, or encounter record enable you to attach files from your local hard drive directly to the opened record; including attaching copies of insurance cards to patient records or attaching copies of superbills to encounter records.

To attach a document directly to an opened record, do the following:

1.  Open a record that supports document attachments; such as a patient, provider, or encounter record.

2.  Click the "Documents" tab, and then click the Attach button. This opens the Upload Document task, which allows you to select the document file that you wish to attach to the record.

3.  Click the File button. This opens the standard Windows File Open dialog. Use the Windows Open dialog to find the file on your local hard drive that you wish to add to the open record.

4.  Once you locate the file, double-click on the file name; or click once on the name and then click the Open button. This selects the file and then returns you to the Upload Document task. Note that the name field is automatically populated with the name of the selected document.

5.  Complete the remaining fields as follows:

  • Document Label: Select the document label from the drop-down list (e.g., Explanation of Benefits, Insurance Correspondence, Medical Report, Patient Correspondence, Patient Driver's License, Patient Insurance Card, etc.).

  • Name: You can use the same name given to the original document; or you can enter a different name, if desired.

  • Status: Select the document status from the drop-down list (e.g., New, Processed, or Errors).

  • Notes: Enter any ad-hoc notes or other data to store with the document record.

6.  To add the document, click the Add button. To abort, click the Cancel button.

You can also perform other document functions directly from the "Documents" section of a record; such as scanning a document and attaching it to a record, opening a document, saving a copy of a document, reviewing document details, and deleting a document.
