According to Dorothy Trottier, the longer she uses Kareo’s web-based software, the more she finds to like about it. And that’s saying quite a bit, considering she has been using Kareo for nearly six years--and has used medical billing software since the days of DOS programs in the early 1990s.

“I decided to go with Kareo in 2006 because the other software I was using was expensive. Every time I turned around, I had to pay more update fees since it was a server-based software. I found that to be excessive,” she states. Dorothy soon found that moving to Kareo’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) offered numerous advantages beyond just a lower cost.

Dorothy has had her own company, Medical Specialty Billing, LLC, for twelve years. Although she lives outside of Denver, CO, her location is irrelevant. She has partners in Southern California and the state of Washington, and they collectively service client accounts from Florida to California. Kareo’s SaaS suits her business model perfectly, she says. “Because Kareo is web-based, we can all be online at once, looking at the same screen. It doesn’t matter where in the country we may be.” That statement applies to her clients as well as her partners.

“No matter where they are, they can log on at any time and see what’s happening with their patient accounts,” she notes. “Kareo lets me offer a great deal of transparency and accountability.” And having a simple-to-use software in clients’ offices has yielded huge dividends in terms of cash flow. One client who had previously been paper-based told Dorothy that his revenues increased by 70 percent when he started using her services.

Getting started on Kareo is easy, according to Dorothy. “I can have a new client set up on Kareo in less than a day.” Once they are on Kareo, office staff can refer to the free step-by-step online tutorials if they need additional training. But the software is so intuitive, Dorothy says, that anyone with basic knowledge of billing can be using Kareo almost immediately.

Kareo offers unique capabilities that save time and money. Dorothy especially likes the statement scrubbing feature. “My clients see a lot of patients in the ER,” she states. “Many times, the addresses are incorrect. Kareo alerts you if it’s a bad address so that you can follow up with the patient. I don’t have to wait for the wrong address to get bounced back from the post office. That is worth a lot to me!” Kareo’s code scrubbing function alerts users when a billing code is wrong and provides suggestions for correcting it.

Dorothy also appreciates Kareo’s automatic address updates. “My Florida client has a lot of snowbirds as patients,” she says. “So their addresses change all the time. When I log onto Kareo, I see right away in the ‘To Do’ report that a statement address has changed. It’s like magic! I can generate a new statement right way without having to manually track down and enter the new mailing address.”

The ease of keeping data safe with Kareo also appealed to Dorothy. “Another reason I chose Kareo is the security and safety of cloud backup compared to server backup. I don't have to worry about lost data.” Software “extras” such as automatic updates keep Dorothy an avowed fan of Kareo. “I do not hesitate to recommend Kareo to anyone--private offices, clinics, large practices or billing companies like mine. It’s the best billing software I have ever used!”
