Enrico Pasquarello of Score Rehabilitation was extremely frustrated with the process of billing for his physical therapy practice. He had tried different medical billing solutions in the six years he had been in business. But when he signed up with WebPT as his electronic medical record software, the limitations of his current billing process became magnified.
“I was using a clearinghouse for medical billing and their software was obsolete,” he states. “Every time I needed to put in charges, I had to retype the same dollar amounts, encounter and insurance information, and patient demographics that I had already typed into Web PT. Even if it was a recurring patient, I had to re-enter the same encounter information all over again. Nothing carried over. It was double the work. We couldn’t grow the business--all my time was caught up in billing.”

Enrico feels it is a better practice to keep the billing in-house. “We can track the claims ourselves and fix any problems right away,” he says. “And when you do the math, third party billers charge a ton of money.” Since moving over to Kareo, Enrico’s cash flow has improved substantially. “In most cases, we’re getting our money in two weeks or less,” he notes.
Enrico estimates that he is spending one tenth of the time on billing than he had previously. He credits the efficiency with allowing him to grow his business. He now has six therapists on the payroll, making PT housecalls like himself. Together, Enrico and his therapists see over 200 patients a week.
What are his top three favorite features of Kareo? “Hands down, the integration with my EMR,” Enrico says unequivocally. “I also really like being able to click a button and see all the claims that have denied or rejected. I don’t have to go through each patient account to see what I need to re-bill and why. And I really like Kareo’s reports. I can see how many units my therapists have documented and how many we’ve been paid for.”
